Understanding comes first.

I teach programming and engineering by moving between explanation, worked examples and practice until the reasoning belongs to the learner. From laboratories in Dhaka to lecture halls in Kuala Lumpur, the aim has stayed the same.

Helping ideas take hold.

  1. 01

    Make the idea tangible

Move between explanation, worked examples and practical activity so that an abstract concept has something concrete to connect to.

  2. 02

    Make room for the reasoning

Ask learners to explain their choices, trace intermediate steps and test assumptions, rather than only arrive at an answer.

  3. 03

    Use practice as feedback

Let exercises and assessment reveal what needs another explanation, a different example or more independent practice.

The goal is not the answer. It is the reasoning that gets you there.

Early teaching foundations.

2013–2014

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

North South University

Tutorial assistance, grading, office hours and support for students learning engineering foundations.

One-to-one support in programming and engineering fundamentals also helped shape my approach to explanation, practice and feedback.

Where teaching meets research.

My work on physical and tactile games explores how programming concepts can become activities that students can discuss, try and reflect on. It connects classroom questions with research into computational thinking.
